As the Supreme Court hearing drew to a close, the accusers seemed to lose their appetite for questioning. The last three journalists summoned that day appeared in the courtroom where state Attorney General Álvaro García Ortiz was on trial for disclosing secrets. The process took just a few minutes. Three hours earlier, the most tense interrogation ever recorded had taken place, with intelligence experts present as witnesses. Private lawyer Gabriel Rodríguez Ramos tried to corner José Manuel Romero, deputy director of EL PAÍS, in March 2024, when the events that have been decided by the Supreme Court took place. He constantly interrupted him and demanded that his questions be answered with a “yes” or “no” without any room for further explanation. Mr. Romero persisted and the argument escalated.
