In his book, “Nicomachean ethics” Aristotle argued that true friendship takes time and effort, and is like a midnight phone call. A friend is a close friend who knows you well enough to answer your phone call no matter what time it is. But that’s not the only possible and valuable friendship. Low-maintenance friendships are another type of relationship that brings happiness with less effort.
What is a friend who does not require much attention?
Although this is not a formal concept in academic psychology, it is used to describe a type of social bond that has certain characteristics. That is, they do not require constant contact to maintain a strong relationship, are based on trust, mutual understanding and acceptance of each other’s rhythm of life, do not cause guilt or conflict due to frequent lack of communication, and can be easily resumed as if no time has passed.
Friendships that aren’t often maintained are ones where you meet once a year and can confidently talk about anything without resenting the time you spent with the other person.
