Madrid November 12 (Europe Press) –
US President Donald Trump says he has an “obligation” to sue British television station BBC for “distorting” his speech shortly before the violent attack by his supporters on January 6, 2021. The incident was an attempt to block the certification of the election results that gave Joe Biden the victory.
“I think we’re obligated to do that,” he said of a potential lawsuit in an interview with Fox News. It is the first time Trump has spoken publicly about the issue since his legal team notified the BBC of a nearly $1 billion (863 million euro) damages lawsuit and that the president was seeking an apology and compensation.
BBC boss Sameer Shah previously apologized for the content, saying there had been an “inaccuracy”. But Trump’s lawyers gave him until Friday to obtain “adequate compensation” for the “damages” caused by the report.
Shah’s apology was related to the fact that the report placed “direct responsibility” on Trump’s part for “prompting the violence” with comments made shortly before the assault.
But President Trump defended the network, saying it had “changed the narrative” and was “wonderfully calm.” While calling these acts “unbelievable,” he noted, “They made it sound radical.” “I have a duty to file a lawsuit because we can’t let people go through this,” he said.
