“Abolishing this ordinance is as difficult as making David Moreno president of Castilla-La Mancha.”

Castile-La Mancha government spokesperson Esther Padilla responded sarcastically to Box’s comments about the possibility of repealing the new autonomy law if her party came to power. “I don’t know if either of them were aware of that, but … This Statute has the status of organic law and cannot be changed or repealed except by a meeting of the House of Representatives. In other words, Vox is still deceiving the public. It would be as difficult for David Moreno to repeal this ordinance as it would be to become president of Castile-La Mancha…well. it’s more impossible» Padilla said this Wednesday.

The Spokesman City Councilman was thus reacting to the statements of David Moreno, president of the Vox caucus, in the district court, which assured that the party would repeal the ordinance amendments if it joins the autonomous government. Rep. Manuel Mariscal echoed this message in Congress, describing the reforms as a “bipartisan fraud.”

Padilla regretted that Vox was using “brush headlines” to “mislead people” with “literally impossible” proposals, and used the opportunity to justify the agreement reached over the new text. “Yesterday, we spent a day that strengthened the collective self-respect of Castilla-La Mancha,” he said, referring to the fact that the Chamber of Deputies approved the review of the reforms by a unanimous vote, with 288 votes in favor of 334 members, or 82% of the chamber.

A spokesperson said the ordinance had “100 per cent support from MPs who believe in self-governance” and stressed that the result was “the result of dialogue, moderation and a common sense approach”. “Castilla-La Mancha has earned the title of bastion of consensus and progress,” he stressed.

Padilla recalled that the new article “protects public services, social rights and social dialogue” and “guarantees equal opportunities, whether you live in a small town or a big city.” He also thanked the contributions of civil society and organizations that took part in the process, calling it “one of the most participatory organizations in the country.”

In contrast, he criticized Vox’s “hypocrisy” in refusing to increase the number of MPs in Castilla-La Mancha while maintaining broad representation in other communities. “If they advocate proportionality so much, they should propose applying proportionality to all boroughs. But they won’t do that because they would lose about 40 councilors,” he said.

Padilla concluded by emphasizing that: Castile-La Mancha proves once again that ‘agreement and political responsibility are possible’and said that the new decree “will be faithful to the Constitution, will not claim privileges and will guarantee equality between the territories.”
