PP leader Alberto Nuñez Feijoo emphasized this Wednesday that he met with Generalitat leader Carlos Masson in the presence of the Executive Secretary after the wedding ceremony on October 29th. He also stressed that he had done other things before Pedro Sánchez himself, such as meeting with President Emiliano García Page of Castilla-La Mancha, traveling to Retour (Albacete) and attending Secopi.
“I spoke to Mazon before you, I spoke to Mr. Page before you, I went to Les Tours before you, I went to Sekopi before you,” Feijo said sharply to the government president in the plenary session of parliament.
However, the PP leader said that “all these problems will happen again if on October 29, 2024 it rains again with the same intensity,” adding that the government has refused for “seven years” to provide “bread and salt to the Valencian community” in terms of “water and hydro infrastructure”.
Sanchez accuses Feijo of ‘lying’
Mr Sánchez had previously accused the People’s Party leader of “lying” about his conversation with the Generalitat on the day of Dana. As such, he recalled that Mr. Feijot “stood in Valencia on October 30th and stated that he knew everything until the last minute, as he had been informed in ‘real time’ by Mr. Mazon of Dana’s evolution since the afternoon of October 29th.”
“But the question that we all have, and I would like to ask Mr. Feijo now, is, if so, how do you explain that the first call between you and the President of the Valencian Community was recorded at 9:27 p.m. on October 29, and that by that time most of the deaths had already occurred? Can you tell me?” he asked.
The President of the Government asked if they had called him “from a telephone booth.” “Aren’t you going to answer? Mr. Feijo, I’m telling you. The explanation is that you lied. You started lying on the 30th and you didn’t stop lying for a year after that,” Sánchez said, adding, “Two weeks later, Mazon himself had to publicly admit that the ‘protocols failed’.”
Sánchez asserted that the PP leadership also “lied” on October 31 when it “stated that it had not issued any relevant alerts, despite the fact that AEMET and the Jucar Hydrographic Council had issued more than 62 notifications and more than 194 electronic notifications.”
Furthermore, Feijó asserted that he “lied” on January 9, 2025, when he “said that Mazon was doing a great job” at an event with Valencian People’s Party mayors, and on April 18 and June 10, when he declared that the then Generalitat president was “showing his face.”
“You say Mr. Mazon showed his face even though it took him six months to meet with his victims and almost a year to agree to interviews. Tell me, Mr. Feijoo, if Mr. Mazon has done so well, why did you declare last week that his resignation was the right decision? Why are you supporting his resignation now? Have you been lying all year, or are you still lying?” he asked Feijoo.
“I would like you to clarify what you talked about with Mazon the day before.”
In his turn to conclude his appearance in Congress this Wednesday, Mr. Sanchez said he “agrees” with ERC spokesperson Gabriel Ruffian, who has “made it very transparent and very clear here” that Mr. Feijo was “the first person to speak” to Mr. Mazon.
“What I ask you to do is to clarify before your honor and before public opinion what you spoke to Mr. Masson the day before and what you told him when you said you were the first person to go to Sekopi,” Sanchez said, concluding that “all citizens” and MPs “have a right to know.”
