A day after an attempted incursion by indigenous peoples into the so-called Blue Zones, the United Nations Climate Change Summit (COP-30) negotiating area, there is widespread perception that little has changed in security at the summit site. On Wednesday, the 12th, there were even more men in the area where participants were undergoing X-ray examinations.

On Tuesday night, demonstrators attempted to enter an area that is restricted to authorized persons only. They manage to evade the X-ray system, but are stopped by a security blockade before they can access the site. The entrance door was broken. It had already been replaced this Wednesday morning.

The Blue Zone is like a big tent. This is typically a temporary structure used at trade shows or conferences and is fragile.

From the first day of the summit meeting, vehicles have been prohibited from entering and exiting the site, and military police have been stationed on the streets. You need to walk for about 10 minutes to get to the entrance.

Movement in front of the Blue Zone was calm this morning as well as the day before. In addition to military police cars, fire department vehicles were also parked. Fewer than 10 activists held placards supporting veganism. Next door, indigenous people were selling handicrafts.

To enter the negotiation area, you must present your credentials and undergo an X-ray screening. As at the airport, open water bottles are prohibited and computers must be removed from backpacks. After being monitored, the barcode of the credentials will be read by a computer and participants will be given access to the country pavilion (where panel discussions on climate-related issues will be held).

The national offices and negotiation rooms are located beyond this pavilion area. Access requires a 5-minute walk within the Blue Zone.

The Blue Zone was closed last night after an attempted break-in. It just reopened this Wednesday at 7am. experts in Estadon People who left the scene to cover the outdoor demonstration were prevented from returning to retrieve their belongings for three and a half hours. Safety on the ground is the responsibility of the United Nations.
