On Tuesday (11th), military and civilian police arrested a gang specializing in residential burglaries in the Jardim Guanabara area of Gobernador Island. Three men were arrested with mock firearms, hand grenades and fake civilian police uniforms. The action was carried out using a drone, which relayed information to police in real time.

The suspects were arrested as they prepared to carry out another robbery in the area. The suspects did not respond to this approach and investigators reported that they were using a vehicle with altered license plates.
Police say the group is affiliated with the Cidade Alta-based Third Pure Commando (TCP).
The operation was carried out by a team from the Coordination Agency for the Inspection and Explosives (CFAE), the Special Arms, Ammunition and Explosives Police Department (Disarmament), and the 4th Pandemic Police Unit (UPP) of the 19th BPM.
One of the group’s victims was Police Chief Pablo Ernesto Pereira Rodríguez, who was arrested on March 29, 2012, when he arrived at his home in the Recreio dos Bandeirantes neighborhood. At that time, the perpetrators parked their car behind the victim’s car. They threatened police officers with pistols and stole cars, documents, and belongings.
According to the police, the arrested gang specializes in the robbery of houses, cargo and vehicles and has a history of several crimes of this type both in the capital and in Baixada Fluminense.

Who was arrested in this operation?
As a result of this operation, three men were arrested. One of the gang members, Saint Clair Braga do Nascimento, has been arrested by the police 22 times for various robberies, including one against a police chief, as well as charges such as misrepresentation, embezzlement, and use of false documents. When he was arrested, his cell phone was stolen and he gave a false identity.
The suspect, Andres Moreira de Sousa, who was also arrested in the operation, was convicted of 18 charges including cargo theft, residential burglary, embezzlement and possession of firearms.
The third was Leonardo de Oliveira Simões, who served 17 stints in the police force, including robbery, entertainment, gang formation, extortion and drug trafficking. He had an undisclosed warrant for his arrest.
