With the release of the Affinity platform on Thursday (10/30), Canva has gone beyond a simple, easy-to-use template-based design platform.

What is the Affinity app?
Affinity is a product of the company Serif Europe Ltd, where the company is known as a professional alternative to other large design software, such as Adobe.
Through this company, Affinity Designer was first launched in 2014 for MacOS users. The purpose of the release is to offer an alternative for designers looking for options outside of large subscription products.
As the Serif company got bigger, it also launched Affinity Photo and Affinity Publisher. Subsequently, Affinity was acquired by Canva. Through Canva, Affinity arrives with its latest version.
Now Affinity is a professional design application that includes various features, from vector tools to photo editing and layout, in a single high-performance platform.
That aside, Affinity is here as an answer to professional designers’ problems, such as serious software issues that ultimately slow down performance, workflows that hinder creativity, and expensive subscription prices.

How to access Affinity
To access Affinity, users can log in (login) using a Canva account. This application is free forever for every Canva user.
However, users of premium Canva accounts can access special features in Affinity, namely Canva AI.
Here’s how to access Affinity as reported on the Canva site.
- Install the Affinity app
- Sign in (login) using your Canva account
- Next, you will be taken to the Affinity authorization page to log in to your Canva account
- Keep clicking “Allow”
- Select “Allow” or “Open” if prompted by your web browser
- Next, users will see a welcome message to the Affinity app
- Then, select “Start”
The new Affinity design app is available on Windows and MacOS. Meanwhile, the iPad is coming soon.
This design application also supports PSD, AI, PDF, SVG, TIFF, IDML, and more, making it easy to open, edit, or collaborate without having to start from scratch.
