Jakarta (ANTARA) – There are quite a few people who unknowingly spend time in front of their mobile phone screen before going to bed, watching videos, playing on social media or simply replying to messages.

This habit may seem trivial, but it can actually have a pretty serious impact on your sleep quality and body health. Exposure to blue light from cell phone screens is known to inhibit hormone production melatoninwhich is a hormone that plays a role in regulating the sleep cycle.

As a result, it becomes more difficult for the body to rest optimally, which can affect physical condition and mental balance in the long term. The following are the negative effects of frequently playing mobile games before going to bed at night, based on information gathered from various sources.

The bad impact of often playing on your mobile when you want to sleep

1. Reduces sleep quality

Staring at your phone screen before going to bed can affect hormone production melatoninwhich is a hormone that helps the body feel sleepy. Blue light from device screens can suppress the release of this hormone, keeping the brain active and alert, so it takes longer to fall asleep.

In addition to this, light exposure can also inhibit the sleep phase Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep phase that is important for maintaining brain function and emotional stability. If this phase is disturbed, the body is unable to rest optimally, even if the duration of sleep seems sufficient.

2. Decrease in production melatonin due to blue light

One of the main effects of playing mobile games at night is decreased levels melatonin in the body. This hormone naturally increases when it gets dark to help us prepare for sleep. However, the blue light from your cell phone screen mistakenly tricks your brain into thinking it’s still daytime.

If allowed to persist, this condition can disrupt your daily routine and reduce your performance at work or school.
