The first figure to hold the title of Pakubuwono was Prince Puger, a king of the Mataram Kingdom before it was divided into the Surakarta Kasunanan and Yogyakarta Sultanate following the Giyanti Agreement in 1955.
This title continued to be used until it was finally given to Sunan Pakubuwono XIII Hangabehi.
For information, Pakubuwono XIII is known to have been married three times and has a total of seven children.
