Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian national futsal team will face the challenges of three countries, namely the Netherlands, Latvia and Tanzania in the 2025 Aqua Four Nations Cup international tournament to be held at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Basketball Hall, Senayan, Jakarta, from 18 to 21 September 2025.
This event is an important part of the preparation of the team led by coach Hector Souto to maintain the players’ fitness during the break of the national futsal competition. Besides that, this tournament is also a warm-up before competing in the Thailand SEA Games 2025 next December and the Futsal Asian Cup 2026 in January next year.
Indonesian Futsal Federation (FFI) President Michael Sianipar expressed great optimism regarding the national futsal team’s performance. “I am very optimistic because the national futsal team under the leadership of coach Hector Souto has achieved extraordinary results. Let us remember that last year we were ASEAN champions, we were AFF Futsal champions,” he said in an official statement.
Michael highlighted that the FFI has not set a specific target for this event, including the SEA Games or the Futsal Asian Cup in 2026. This aims to ensure that players can compete more freely without pressure.
As of August 29, 2025, Indonesia is ranked 23rd in the world rankings according to FIFA, the highest compared to its opponents in this tournament. However, Michael believes that matches against invited teams are still important as a measure of strength before appearing in larger events.
