Jakarta (ANTARA) – Not long after the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas came into force, sad news arrived from Gaza. A young Palestinian journalist, Saleh Aljafarawi, reportedly died on Sunday (10/12) in the Al-Sabra neighborhood of Gaza.

Saleh is known as a journalist who actively denounces the genocide committed by Israel against the Palestinian people.

Saleh Aljafarawi is a Palestinian journalist and content creator born on November 22, 1997 in Gaza City.

At the age of 28, he is known as a multi-talented figure. Before entering the world of journalism, Saleh was known to love singing, composing songs and excelling at table tennis. He is also a memorizer of the Quran who has memorized 600 pages.

Besides that, Saleh has been active as a YouTuber since 2020. Through his YouTube channel, he often shares his songs, daily vlogs and videos showcasing the beauty of his homeland, Gaza.

The peaceful life he lived has changed dramatically since Israel began attacking Gaza and carrying out acts of genocide. From there he decided to become an independent journalist, covering every event that happened in the conflict area.

Since the first major Israeli attack in October 2023, Saleh has actively taken the field. He reported on war conditions, the humanitarian situation and the suffering of Gazans who lost their families to the airstrikes.

The coverage was shared via the social media platforms Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, which then attracted many followers.

Saleh’s popularity rose rapidly due to his direct and empathetic communication style. Amid limited international media access to the Gaza region, it has become an important source of information from within the conflict area.

The religious and humanist narrative he conveyed made the world community feel connected to the suffering of the Palestinian people.

In his various accounts, Saleh also feels the same hunger and danger as the people of Gaza. He reported on the tragic plight of child victims of attacks, who ran away to avoid air strikes and survived despite living in fear.

His courage in covering up the genocide made Saleh a target. He is known to be on the Israeli authorities’ “Red Notice” list, one of the journalists targeted or closely monitored by Israel.

On February 15, 2024, he was injured by an Israeli drone strike while covering medical care at Al-Nasr Hospital in southern Gaza.

“To be honest, I live in fear every second, especially after hearing what the Israeli occupation said about me,” Saleh told Al Jazeera in January 2025.

Even though he continued to receive threats, Saleh did not give up. He continues his mission to tell the truth and show the world the suffering of the people of Gaza.

Saleh’s fight ended on October 12, 2025. He was shot dead while covering clashes between armed militias affiliated with Israel and Hamas fighters in the Sabra area, south of Gaza City. When he was found, Saleh was still wearing a vest with the words “Press” written on it.

This tragedy occurred a few days after the ceasefire was announced. Before being found dead, Saleh would have disappeared.

The news of his passing was a deep sorrow for the family. His father expressed his sadness in a post on the wearthpeace Instagram account: “You told me you wanted to be a martyr. May God grant you his mercy.”

Data shows that in the last two years as many as 270 journalists have died as a result of Israeli attacks in Palestine. Journalists, in fact, should be protected in war situations.

The genocide carried out by Israel against Gaza has caused enormous damage, ranging from the destruction of settlements, to the food crisis, to many victims.

In the midst of this situation, Saleh Aljafarawi became a symbol of the courage and dedication of journalists who fought to convey the truth from a war-torn land.
