Jakarta (ANTARA) – The family of the late Virginia Giuffre has spoken out about Prince Andrew losing his royal title amid growing pressure over his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
“Today, an ordinary American girl from an ordinary American family defeated an English prince with her extraordinary honesty and courage,” said Virginia Giuffre’s brother, Sky Roberts; and his wife Amanda Roberts, in their official statement, as reported today by PEOPLE.
They see Buckingham Palace’s move to revoke the title of the prince whose birth name is Andrew Mountbatten Windsor as a declaration of victory for Giuffre.
“Virginia Roberts Giuffre, our sister, who was a child when she was sexually abused by Andrew, has never stopped fighting to take responsibility for what happened to her and many other survivors like her,” the statement continues.
However, Sky Roberts told the BBC that stripping him of his princely title was not enough and called for the investigation into Andrew to continue, adding that he too should be jailed.
On Thursday 30/10, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles had begun the formal process to revoke Prince Andrew’s honorary honors, titles and awards.
“Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor,” Buckingham Palace said in an official statement.
The palace also said Andrew had been officially notified to leave his home at Royal Lodge, near Windsor Castle.
The BBC reports that Andrew will move to a property on the private Sandringham estate in Norfolk, which will be personally financed by the monarch.
The move comes after Andrew voluntarily renounced several royal titles, including Duke of York, earlier this month amid growing allegations about his links to Epstein.
Andrew himself has consistently denied allegations against him that he had sex with Giuffre when she was 17, and an out-of-court settlement in the civil case in 2022 did not include an admission of liability or apology.
As for Virginia Giuffre, an American who accused Epstein of selling her to Andrew when she was 17, she died by suicide in early 2025.
In his memoir entitled “Nobody’s Girl: Memoirs of Abuse Survivors and the Fight for Justice” published this month, Giuffre revealed that she was forced to have sex with Andrew three times when she was just 17.
