This Sunday (2009), Cruzeiro vs. Fluminense was 0-0 in Round 33 of the Brazilian Championship held at the Mineirao Stadium. In this controversial move, the tricolors made a number of complaints about the referee of the draw.
More than 53,000 fans watched a competitive match that included some controversial moves in the first half. Fluminense have asked for Matheus Pereira to be expelled from the match. Both teams have one point each, with Cruzeiro in third place with 64 points and Fluminense in seventh place with 51 points.
The match had chances for both teams, with Fluminense scoring with a short free-kick, the ball rebounding to Everard but staying in the hands of Cassio. Cruzeiro had a chance when Cristian threw the ball to Arroyo, but the ball was cut by the defense. The Tricolors then had a chance and Acosta received it in the middle and took a great shot, but Casio palmed it and sent the ball into the corner.
In the 18th minute, Cruzeiro arrived with a lot of danger, with a quick exit Matthäus made a pass to Romero, who found Caio Jorge, the attacker took the lead and threw the ball to Arroyo, who kicked the ball and the ball went close to the goal, scaring the Fluminense fans. Cruzeiro arrived in a dangerous situation again, but was quickly sent off again in the 29th minute, this time with Matheus Pereira finding Arroyo who was running in, and the striker crossed to Caio Jorge, but the ball went past the centre-forward and onto the wing.
Fluminense goalkeeper Fabio has twice shown why he has been named the best player in the world by FIFA. The first was a header from Kaiki, and the goalkeeper made two excellent saves on the line. In the second chance, Matheus Pereira fired a low shot inside the area, which the goalkeeper caught on either side. Once again, Fabio hit Eduardo with a beautiful shot, and the goalkeeper rose high to watch for a beat before slotting it into the corner. On the beam! In stoppage time, Fluminense fought back and Hércules had a good shot, but the ball went over the crossbar.
The first half ended with a controversial move, with Fluminense calling for the sending off of Matheus Pereira for punching Bernal in the face, but the referee understood that the move was not for a red as Matheus was fouled early in the play by VAR.
The first dangerous move of the second half came from Eduardo, the midfielder kicked hard and Fabio went to collect it, but the ball skidded wide. Cruzeiro arrived in a dangerous situation, Caio Jorge received the ball in the middle and ran away, the attacker rushed to the edge of the area and risked a shot, but the ball disappeared. Fluminense quickly turned around and Everard received in the middle, charged and fired a cross, but the ball went wide.
Coach Zuberdia changed his attack, swapping Serna for Soteldo, then Cruzeiro, Jardim calling out Gabigol and Arroyo choosing to leave. This change did not affect either party, and Zubeldia decided to change again, with Kino and John Kennedy called up in place of Everardo and Cannobio. Fluminense started to pick up speed, but that didn’t scare Cassio too much. Cruzeiro had more possession but could not threaten Fabio’s goal.
In the 30th minute, when both teams had two chances, Fluminense’s Hercules shot, but the ball went wide. For Cruzeiro, Villalba threw the ball to Caio Jorge, who headed it into the hands of Fabio. Raposa made three changes in the sequence, with William, Eduardo and Christian sent off. Wallace, Sinisterra and Kaua Moraes participated. Fluminense have made the latest changes, replacing Acosta and Hércules with Lima and Otavio. The match was blocked and ended with 0x0. One point on each side.
