Jakarta (ANTARA) – Sleep should be a good time for the body to rest and recover energy. However, for some people, rest time is actually disturbed due to loud noises during sleep, known as snore or snore.
The habit of snoring is often considered normal and often even used as a joke. In fact, continuous snoring can be a sign of health problems and the risk of serious diseases that need to be paid attention to.
What is it snore or snoring?
Snoring is a condition in which a person makes harsh, loud sounds during sleep due to narrowing or obstruction of the airways.
When air tries to pass through the narrowed channel, vibrations occur that produce snoring sounds from the mouth or nose.
This habit is more often experienced by men and obese people. Fat buildup in the neck area can narrow the airways and cause snoring sounds.
In addition to this, snoring can also be caused by fatigue, sinusitis, deformity of the nose or throat, enlarged tonsils or a large tongue.

1. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)
OSA is a serious condition when the airway becomes blocked during sleep, causing breathing to stop for 10 to 20 seconds. This condition causes a decrease in oxygen levels in the body and can cause sudden awakening.
If left untreated, OSA can trigger dangerous complications such as sudden cardiac arrest or death. Furthermore, OSA sufferers tend to have restless sleep and fall asleep easily during the day.
2. Headaches and insomnia
Lack of oxygen due to snoring e sleep apnea can cause headaches and sleep disturbances. This condition disrupts the quality of rest and makes it difficult for the body to achieve optimal recovery.
3. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
Snoring in a less than ideal sleeping position can trigger stomach acid to back up into the esophagus. When the muscles around the stomach weaken, food and stomach acid easily move up into the esophagus. This also causes a burning sensation in the chest or heartburn.
4. Heart disease
The lack of oxygen in the blood due to snoring can increase blood pressure and trigger hypertension. In the long term, this condition places a burden on the heart and increases the risk of heart disease, such as a heart attack or heart rhythm disturbances (arrhythmia).
5. Shots
Decreased oxygen levels due to impaired breathing during sleep can inhibit the flow of oxygen to the brain. If it persists, this condition can trigger a stroke, especially in people with a history of high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
6. Pregnancy complications
