Federal Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL) attacked President Lula and Minister Alexandre de Moraes (STF) during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) held this weekend at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
Mr. Eduardo accused Mr. Lula and Presidents Gustavo Petro and Nicolás Maduro of Colombia and Venezuela, respectively, of using drug cartel money to stay in power. “When Mr. Lula met with President Trump in Malaysia a few weeks ago, he was pressured by Mr. Petro and Mr. Maduro to defend Venezuela. They are part of the same group, the São Paulo Forum, and they are all allies, and they maintain power with money from the cartels,” he said.
Eduardo Bolsonaro then quoted Moraes, saying, “In Brazil, they are more experts than in Mexico, but it’s the same thing. They kill, they launder money, they jump into politics and even the Supreme Court. Alexandre de Moraes went to Rio de Janeiro…imagine STF judges going to Rio to stop the state governor from sending police to the favelas.”
Before mentioning Lula and Moraes, Eduardo said the power of cartels in Latin America was reflected in Brazil’s politics and institutions. He also praised the Trump administration for expressing support for Brazil’s security forces after a major operation in Rio that left more than 100 suspects and four agents dead.

The congressman also said there is a link between Latin American governments and drug trafficking. “One of the weapons seized had the official logo of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, indicating that the connections between cartels are the same as those between presidents.”
The statement came amid a recent military operation authorized by the Trump administration to intercept suspected drug-trafficking vessels in the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean, under the claim of combating international drug trafficking.

“There will be a coup in the 2022 elections.”
After the event, Eduardo issued a statement criticizing Moraes and the 2022 election on his X account (formerly Twitter).
“It was interesting to see former PGR, senator and governor John Ashcroft in trouble after I revealed that he and Mr. Moraes used USAID funds to set up a check agency in Brazil to stage a coup in the 2022 elections,” he wrote.
