American rapper Rod Wave received his first Grammy nomination this Friday (7/11). However, this achievement coincided with a new controversial episode. On the same day, the artist was arrested in Georgia on four criminal charges.
Rod Wave, 27, is vying for the award for Best Song Composed for Visual Media with “Sinners,” from the soundtrack of the film Sinners (2025). Hours after his nomination was announced, he was arrested on charges of possession of a weapon during an attempted offense, dangerous driving and two counts of possession of illegal drugs, according to People magazine.

The rapper has been arrested twice this year, facing 14 charges including assault and criminal conspiracy. Rod was released on Saturday (August 11) after paying bail of $8,000 (approximately R$42,000 at current rates).

In a memo sent to TMZ, the artist’s attorney called the arrest unwarranted and said, “The officers involved in the arrest are part of the controversial Crime Suppression Unit, a group known for valuing high arrest numbers and aggressive tactics over public safety.”
