AP-7 has been closed since 2pm on Saturday due to a collision between a passenger car and a tanker truck transporting diesel fuel. By 9pm Sunday, there was still a 13km traffic jam. The amputation occurred between L’Ametla de Mar and L’Ampora (Tarragona), and although no one was seriously injured, it caused significant delays throughout the weekend, especially during repatriation operations.
Six firefighters rescued the truck driver and neutralized the fuel leak on Saturday, but efforts to remove the vehicle continued throughout the weekend.
The Fire Engineering Risk Intervention Group’s Chemical Risk Van was on hand to the scene of the accident and supervised the operation. Additionally, there are various tankers transporting cargo, forcing road closures in both directions.
The surgery was completed around 7 p.m. It was Sunday, and the cars were still on the road at the end of the day. After the fuel was removed, the road still had to be cleared while a crane removed the truck.
Vehicles were diverted along the N-340 highway, causing delays of several kilometers throughout the weekend. The Transport Agency of Catalonia recommends the alternative use of C-12 and C-44.
