Last Sunday (9/11), 61 prisoners were transferred from the Center for Prison Progress (CPP) in Tremembe, in the interior of São Paulo, in an operation by the Rapid Intervention Group (GIR) in coordination with the Secretariat of Prison Management (SAP).
According to SAP, 55 inmates were reassigned due to what was considered inappropriate behavior within the unit. The majority, 38 prisoners, were sent to prison 1 in Franco da Rocha, 17 to prison 1 in Tremembe, and 6 were sent to other prisons as they had already been transferred.
Although located in the same prison, Tremembe CPP is the second Tremembe prison, known as the “prison of celebrities”, where criminals such as Suzanne von Richthofen, the Clavinhos brothers (Daniel and Cristian), Alexandre Nardoni, Anna Carolina Jatova, Elise Matsunaga, and former player Robinho are serving time. GIR activities were conducted in a separate unit of the complex.
The GIR is made up of correctional officers who are specially trained to handle crises and high-risk situations in state prisons. Agents will be called if there is a threat of a riot, a fight between inmates, signs of a riot, or suspected internal organization among inmates.
SAP said there were no records of obstruction or resistance during the operation, stressing that this type of behavior is routine and is carried out regularly to maintain discipline and control inside São Paulo prisons.
