Santa Catarina Governor Jorginho Melo (PL) announced last Sunday (11/9) that bunkers will be installed in state schools to protect students and teachers from climate change. Last Friday (7/11), the westernmost part of the state of Santa Catarina was hit by a tornado that passed through the region. Jorginho published a video on social media in Dionisio Cerqueira, one of the cities destroyed by the tornado, announcing the construction of a protection room. Check it out:
“Our state knows how to bounce back and learn from new challenges, and Santa Catarina funds will be invested to keep Santa Catarina safe and protected,” the governor said.
The Civil Defense Department confirmed that three tornadoes had passed west of Santa Catarina Island as of Saturday (8/11). In addition to Dionisio Cerqueira, Zanchere and Facinal dos Guedes were also influenced.

According to Civil Defense, the tornado was short-lived but caused intense and concentrated damage. In Dionisio Cerqueira, falling trees, reroofing, and temporary interruptions in electricity supply were recorded.
