The AP-7 motorway has reopened near L’Ametla de Mar (Tarragona) after being closed for more than 33 hours this weekend after a tanker overturned around 2pm on Saturday, causing delays of up to 10 kilometers.
The Catalan Transport Authority (SCT) informed EFE that northbound traffic was restored as of 11:13pm yesterday, Sunday, after the removal of the truck and the clearing of the road.
A truck transporting mineral oil overturned after colliding with a car on the AP-7 highway, occupying the northbound lane and leaving the truck across the median. The incident prompted the dispatch of several tankers to transfer cargo.
Vehicles traveling on the highway were diverted along the N-340 road and motorists were advised to take alternative routes along local roads C-12 and C-44 to avoid traffic congestion. The motorway closure caused queues up to 10 kilometers long on the northbound AP-7, just as large numbers of vehicles returned to Barcelona and its metropolitan area for the weekend’s repatriation operation.
In addition to these delays, an accident that occurred in the afternoon on AP-7 near Subirac (Barcelona) also added a 6-kilometer column in the north direction.
