At least nine people are missing and two others have been rescued after a Chinese fishing boat capsized off the coast of Daecheong Island in southwestern South Korea, the maritime police announced on Monday.
The incident occurred at around 8:53 a.m. (local time), when a 99-ton vessel with 11 people on board capsized 150 kilometers southwest of the aforementioned island, which is located near the border with North Korea.
After Gunsan Maritime Police received a distress report from the Chinese Coast Guard, South Korean authorities dispatched four patrol boats and a helicopter to the area.
The accident occurred just one day after another Chinese fishing boat capsized in southwestern South Korean waters, killing at least two people and leaving three missing. The remaining six crew members were rescued by nearby boats.
