The Ministry of Mines and Energy on Monday (10th) launched a public consultation for the first auction for contracts for batteries and energy storage systems for the Brazilian power sector.
According to the proposal published in the DOU (Official Gazette), tenders will be invited in April 2026, offering a 10-year contract with supply starting from August 1, 2028.
The dispute is aimed at allowing the country to deal with excess energy from intermittent sources, while allowing energy storage systems to be installed, as wind and solar power plants have limited production and risk power outages at certain times of the day.
