Brazilian rider Diogo Moreira (Karex) took pole position this Saturday in the Moto2 category for the 21st to last round of the Motorcycle World Championship, the Portuguese Grand Prix, while his rival for the title, Spaniard Manuel González (Karex), will start from eighth on the grid.
At the Algarve Internacional do Algarve, Moreira set the top Q2 time with a time of 1 minute 41.168 seconds, ahead of British Jake Dixon (Boscos Curro) with a time of 1 minute 41.185 seconds. The best Spanish athletes, in that order, were Aron Cane (Karex / 5th place, 1:41.355), Daniel Holgado (Karex / 6th place, 1:41.404), Daniel Muñoz (Karex / 7th place, 1:41.441) and the aforementioned Manu Gonzalez (8th place, 1:41.499).
In the Moto3 category, Australian Joel Kelso (KTM) was fastest on the Portimao asphalt in Q2 with a best time of 1’46.764, taking pole position ahead of Briton Scott Ogden (KTM, 2nd place, 1’46.833) and Spaniard Angel Piqueras (KTM, 3rd place, 1’46.927).
