On Sunday afternoon, September 11, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the back of the head with a pellet gun while meeting with friends in an apartment in Santa Barbara d’Oeste, in the interior of São Paulo, and was hospitalized. The shot was accidentally fired by one of the youths at the scene.
The Military Police (PM) said a team had been called in to respond to the incident. Investigators discovered at the scene that the victim was in the home with three friends and a minor when they took a BB gun from the homeowner.
The two were playing video games when the apartment resident took the mother’s gun to show a co-worker, who took advantage of the opportunity to handle it, police said. The woman was not at home at the time of the incident.
At some point, one of the youths was holding a gun and accidentally fired, striking the victim in the back of the head, according to the incident report. Help was called and the injured man was taken to the Edison Mano Emergency Room.
The boy had to be taken to Santa Barbara Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
