Federal Supreme Court (STF) Minister Alexandre de Moraes has suspended an investigation by the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police, which was investigating the removal of bodies from some of the 121 people killed in a large-scale operation in the Alemão and Peña complexes. The decision came in the same ruling in which Moraes ordered Rio de Janeiro’s government to preserve images from police officers’ body cameras and submit autopsy reports of the dead.
The day after the surgery, residents removed dozens of bodies from the forest that separates the two housing complexes.
Civilian Police Commissioner Felipe Curri announced the opening of an investigation into possible procedural irregularities. Kuri said residents were removing some of the camouflage clothing from the bodies.
“As soon as the 22nd Democratic Party (Peña) became aware of the removal of the body and the stripping of the uniform, an investigation was launched to investigate charges of procedural fraud,” civilian police said in a statement.
The corporation said, “This is not an investigation into the deceased’s relatives, but rather an order from the leaders of a criminal faction who are trying to conceal the connection between the deceased and the organization.”
