Officials define picos and plates according to the day of the week, the type of car, and the last digit of the license plate. It is also important to remember that the application of this program varies by city.
The purpose of restricting vehicular traffic on city streets is to reduce the number of vehicles and therefore the traffic volume, reducing traffic accidents and pollution levels.

As well as vehicle restrictions, the Cartagena Pico y Placa schedule also varies depending on the type of vehicle and applies as follows:
motorcycle: From 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
individual: 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
taxi: From 6 o’clock to 6 o’clock the next day, that is, 24 hours.

In order for a vehicle with these conditions to be exempted from pico and plates, a corresponding application must be submitted with copies of the correct documentation of the vehicle and driver, as well as reassurance of all concepts.
