Artificial intelligence is destined to transform the labor market in ways that are still difficult to imagine. So far, its real impact has been poorly reflected in employment and productivity data, but in the long run … In the long term, nearly every sector will feel the effects. The big question now is what kind of experts can ensure safety in this scenario.

he recently spoke about this issue jeff bezosFounder of Amazon and one of the richest men on the planet. In a speech at Italian Tech Week 2025 in Turin, the businessman reflected on the role of artificial intelligence and the future of employment. Bezos asserted that machines have a quality that can never be duplicated: the ability to invent.

The mogul explained that ingenuity not only drives innovation, but is the basis of all technological progress. Progress depends on people who can imagine new solutions and build what doesn’t yet exist, he said. He himself attributes the success of Amazon, which started as a simple e-bookstore and eventually became a global e-commerce giant, to this ethos. His aerospace company, Blue Origin, was born out of the same urge to create something that is still out of reach.

Invention, the key to success

Bezos shared a personal anecdote to explain his vision. One summer, he spent months repairing a bulldozer on his grandfather’s ranch in Texas without any outside help. “We had to build our own crane to get the transmission out,” he recalled. He explained that the experience taught him the value of practical creativity and the importance of approaching problems with ingenuity even when not all resources are available.

Mr. Bezos defines himself as a born inventor. “You can sit someone in front of a whiteboard and generate 100 ideas in 30 minutes,” he said during his talk. For this reason, he asserts that Amazon and Blue Origin require a similar attitude from candidates during their selection processes. “When I interview someone, I ask them to give examples such as: what i invented” he pointed out.

What will happen to those who lose their jobs?

The big question about artificial intelligence is no longer whether it will replace jobs, but what will happen to the people left behind by the system. Many experts warn that there will come a point when most jobs will cease to exist as machines do everything better, faster and cheaper. one of them is Elon Musk In his speech at Vivatech 2024, the Tesla and SpaceX founder asserted that in the future, “no one will probably have a job” and that there will be a need for universal basic income.

Musk said increased automation will ultimately force major changes in the economic system. His proposal calls for a higher universal income, a kind of guaranteed salary that would replace employment as a source of livelihood. In that scenario, work would no longer be an obligation, but a choice.
