This Thursday, the plenary session of the Andalusian Parliament rejected, by an absolute majority of the PP-A, the request for an investigative commission registered by the left opposition groups (PSOE-A, Por Andalusia, Mixto Adelante Andalusia) and supported by Box, regarding the management of the early cancer detection system of the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) and its “possible political liability”.

Bloc Opposition Turns Moreno’s ‘Historical’ Budget into His Whole Health Care Fix

In this way, the PP-A legislators understood that this initiative sought to support a “circus” in the Chamber of Municipalities and, after the registration of the request by the left-wing groups, reaffirmed in plenary session the opposition to this initiative that the groups had already expressed in writing within the period set for this purpose.

Beatriz Jurado, a member of the PP-A parliament, was responsible for justifying the group’s position in the debate on the initiative, defending that the Andalusian government “was capable of responding, paying attention and consideration to women” affected by “communication problems” in the screening program “which should have been the situation” and, as she predicted, “will continue to do so”.

He added that what happened in this case was a “very serious failure” that “should never happen again” and defended Andalusia’s women, saying they “can rest assured” that it is the government of Juanma Moreno in Andalusia who will “correct, transform, strengthen and protect their health, and not the PSOE, which exploits their pain for political gain”.

The PP-A MP justified his group’s rejection of the commission by saying that it did not want to turn parliament into a “circus” from which opposition forces could exploit “electoral gains.” He added that “investigative commissions play the role of clarifying political accountability,” and stressed that “this is already happening in Andalusia,” stressing that “there have been dismissals and resignations at all levels,” and stressing “resources, plans and measures.” What happened has already been resolved, so we must respond “rigorously, solvently” and “responsibly.”

To defend the initiative, Deputy Spokesperson Angeles Feliz intervened in the plenary session on behalf of the Socialist Party Group, criticizing that “a month and a half” after the first complaints from women were heard, “we still do not know what happened, what is the scale of the problem, how many women are affected and where they are affected”, before warning that “the most serious thing” is that “there are still women who have not been tested, who have not been tested.” Biopsies and “not in the surgeon or oncologist channel.”

Having said that, he claimed that “the cancer screening scandal has exposed the holes that the ‘popular’ people who govern the board have continued to dig year after year in the public health system,” and therefore “the breast cancer issue is just the tip of the iceberg in the collapse of a public health system that has been thoroughly plundered, destroyed and privatized for seven years since the PP-A government.”

The Socialist Party lawmaker went on to point out that the “true face” of President Juanma Moreno and the government “has made clear his inhumanity, his ice running through his veins, his inability to face the crisis and, above all, that his aim is not to save women’s lives,” and concluded by warning that the crisis “is not yet over and will not end until it is over for Andalusians.” Especially women who have cancer that could have been prevented, please know the truth about what happened. ”

Inma Nieto, a spokeswoman for the group Por Andalucía, said that what had happened was that “there are an unspecified number of women in Andalusia who are ignored by the Andalusian Health Authority, even though they participate in breast cancer early detection programs and their mammograms show they may have cancer.”

The representative of Izquierda Unida (IU) went on to say that “the lack of notification has resulted in, in some cases, that by the time the cancer appears, it has already metastasized” and has had to undergo “more aggressive surgeries, longer and more painful tumor treatments”, criticizing the “opacity” with which the board is “dealing” with what she defined as a “first-level health crisis” and saying that she believes the commission’s request has merit. He said the investigation should be approved “unanimously” so that the Andalusian government could “bring face to face and account”.

José Ignacio García, spokesperson for the mixed group Adelante Andalucía, also spoke in defense of the initiative, taking his turn to begin a series of questions to Antonio Sanz, Minister of Health, Presidency and Emergencies, who was attending the debate from his seat.

Among the questions she asked were: Why did the Andalusian government “not notify women with breast cancer when the status of their mammograms was suspicious?”, “What exactly are the protocols, laws and regulations that say women should not be notified so as not to cause anxiety?” and “When did we know that women with suspicious mammograms were not notified?”

Jose Ignacio García defended his question as “very easy” and “very simple” and that it was of interest “to all Andalusians”, “including those who voted for the PP”, and concluded that in his opinion it was expedient to facilitate this commission in order to “seriously deal with what happened” and “never again”.

Following the group that supported the idea, Vox deputy Rafael Segovia intervened in the debate, pointing out that his group believes that the “left wing, or a large part of it” in the Andalusian parliament is “taking advantage of the situation resulting from the mistake made by the SAS in breast cancer testing to impoverish the government” of the military junta, and demanding that “that may be the real thing or one of the aims of this commission.”

However, “the incompetence, insensitivity and lack of transparency displayed by the department on this issue prevents us from turning a blind eye,” the Vox representative added, questioning the information the board has so far provided in relation to this issue. However, he stressed that the information does not correspond to the information maintained by the Ama Breast Cancer Women’s Association, undermining, as he stressed, the “less credibility” of the Andalusian government and the “lack” of accountability to the Andalusian government along these lines. board.

Finally, he recalled that Vox, apart from the proposals of left-wing organizations, had registered a request for the establishment of an investigative commission on this issue “to find out what has happened not only in recent years, but throughout the history of screening”, adding that before addressing the PP-A representatives, he suggested that “if you do not want to submit to an investigative commission derived from the left, then you should support the investigative commission proposed by Vox”.
