Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL), in an interview with Column this Wednesday (12/11), reacted to the statements of Minas Gerais Governor Romeu Zema (Novo), classifying the congressman’s statements in the United States as false. Zema is also a primary candidate for president of the republic in next year’s elections.

“Can I react? Or will I be accused of dividing rights? I am here alone and I am doing something that everyone who follows me knows. In fact, I already know the answer to this question that I asked,” Eduardo Bolsonaro wrote.

“The real question is, who cares about tarnishing my reputation? Is this an organized attack?” he asked in a post on social networks.

In an interview for the same column, Zema credited President Donald Trump’s administration’s tariffs on Brazilian products for making President Lula more popular for certain reasons.

“He (Eduardo Bolsonaro) was not very happy with what he said. You cannot put someone’s personal, private rights above the interests of the state. You cannot (cannot) put someone’s personal interests above the interests of the country,” Zema declared.

“And it seems to me that in that moment he either did not speak well or did something that implied that people are more important than the country. And no human being is more important than the country, not even the president. I think that was bad for the right, but that is in the past,” the Novo primary candidate concluded.

Meanwhile, Eduardo Bolsonaro arranged for the U.S. government to sanction officials, but insisted he had no influence over the taxes the White House applied to Brazilian products.
