The Chief Justice of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Edson Fassin, on Wednesday (12/11) praised the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gone, who was reappointed after passing the public hearing and being confirmed by the Senate.
Gone’s reappointment as PGR was approved with 45 votes in favor and 26 votes against. Gone received fewer votes than when he was nominated by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) in 2023. At the time, 65 senators were in favor and 11 were against. The drop in approval ratings was due to the PGR’s role in the coup plot and its actions in response to the January 8 attack.
“We also hope that the new administration of the Attorney General of the Republic, at the head of the Federal Public Ministry, will continue to be characterized by the technical competence, defense of democratic institutions and theoretical erudition that have always guided the research of Professor Paulo Gone,” Fassin said.
In addition to Mr. Gone, the plenary session also analyzed candidates for the Superior Military Tribunal (STM), the National Council of Justice (CNJ), the National Council of Public Ministries (CNMP), and institutions such as the National Water and Sanitation Agency (ANA) and the National Infrastructure Transport Agency (ANTT).
