According to a Genial/Quest poll released this Thursday (11/13), 67% of Brazilians believe that former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) should not run for president in 2026. For this group, the ideal would be for the former chief executive to support another candidate in the next election.
Meanwhile, 26% of those interviewed said they believed the former president would run again, and 7% said they either didn’t know or didn’t want to answer.
In June 2023, the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) declared Jair Bolsonaro ineligible until 2030, citing abuse of political and economic power. In September, the Federal Supreme Court (STF) sentenced Bolsonaro to 27 years and three months in prison for leading the coup attempt.

The survey also found that 59% of Brazilians think President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) should not seek re-election next year.
That number has increased since October, when 56% said the same. Meanwhile, the percentage of people who support re-election fell from 42% to 38% over the same period.
The study also assessed what the best outcome for Brazil’s presidential election would be based on public opinion. Check the results:
- Names not related to Lula or Bolsonaro: 24%
- Lula re-elected: 23%
- Non-political person: 17%
- Bolsonaro qualifies and wins: 15%
- Names supported by Bolsonaro: 11%
- Candidates supported by Lula: 5%
According to the survey, 5% of respondents either did not respond or did not know.
The survey was conducted between November 6th and 9th among 2,004 people aged 16 and older. Confidence level is 95%.
