During an official visit to Thimphu, Bhutan, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the “horrible incident” in New Delhi has caused great suffering to the people of the country and expressed support for the affected families. The statement was made in the wake of Monday’s explosion near the Red Fort, a historic and busy tourist destination in India’s capital, killing at least nine people and injuring nearly 20 others, according to excerpts of his speech published through his account on the social network.

According to Europa News Agency, Prime Minister Modi assured that those responsible for the incident will not go unpunished. “Our institutions will get to the bottom of this conspiracy. The conspirators of this conspiracy will not go unpunished,” the leader declared, also suggesting that everyone involved in the attack would be brought to justice. These demonstrations occurred after local authorities declared a state of maximum alert in the city following the attacks.

The explosion took place near a metro station near the Red Fort. The area is densely populated and is known for its historical association as a meeting point for visitors and residents of the capital, Europa Press detailed. Built in the 17th century, the Red Fort attracts a large number of tourists every day, highlighting the seriousness of the attacks, which often occur in crowded conditions.

European News Agency reported that Indian authorities have taken a series of additional safety measures in response to the explosion. The state of high alert was extended not only to New Delhi but also to neighboring regions such as Uttar Pradesh. In the latter, media detailed that surveillance and protection equipment had been stepped up in areas considered important, including various religious spaces and places with large influxes of people.

In his speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi used terms such as “conspiracy” to describe what happened, signaling his official intention to identify not only the author of the attack but also the possibility that there was a plan behind it. The prime minister’s speech, quoted by the European Press Agency, said the investigation aimed to uncover all aspects of the incident, while national security agencies continued to work on the ground.

Media noted that the explosion caused surprise and alarm among residents and visitors to the area, especially since it occurred in an iconic historical and tourist site. Since the incident, police presence has been increased and operations aimed at protecting areas considered vulnerable and restoring security have been carried out.

The European Press Agency stressed that preventive measures following the outbreak include stricter testing near transport stations and increased deployment at other monuments and other frequently visited places. Although authorities have not yet released details about the attack’s motive or possible perpetrators, the publicly stated commitment is aimed at fully unraveling the incident and bringing those responsible to justice.

The Government of India, through the voice of Prime Minister Modi, conveyed a message of support to those directly and indirectly affected after the attack and pledged to mobilize all tools of the state to prevent similar acts and ensure the safety of citizens and visitors in the capital and surrounding areas.
