The former player withdrew his candidacy at the beginning of 2025 after failing to receive minimum support from the federation and clubs.
Ronaldo Fenomeno has confirmed that he no longer intends to run for president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). The former player said the decision was influenced by “system choices” that made his candidacy impossible.
“After this attempt failed, I completely abandoned this idea. If the system chooses this way, I can’t do anything on the way, just try to help from the outside,” he said Thursday night at the Galacticos Auction, an event held at the Club Monte Virginia in São Paulo, celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Fundação Fenômenos.
Earlier this year, Ronaldo was even put forward as a preliminary candidate for the organization’s top spot. However, he was unable to gather the support from federations and clubs necessary to formalize his candidacy. He was scheduled to face Edonald Rodriguez, who was then the president of the CBF. Shortly after, Rodriguez was sacked and Samir Zaud became chairman, and he maintains a friendly relationship with Ronaldo.
Ronaldo in a new direction
Away from football’s political controversies, Ronaldo focuses his energies on the Fenomenos Foundation, which focuses on social projects. It has also invested in other sports such as tennis and padel, indicating that its current focus is off the pitch.
“My focus and main purpose now is the Foundation. I am working on other things, but the Foundation is what fills my eyes and gives me the motivation to wake up and chase incentives,” the former player concluded.
