Successor of CGT’s Mr. Triumville and Mr. Camioneros looks back on labor reform

“It’s inconceivable that salary and labor cost issues would upset the balance of the dollar. That’s not going to happen, and that’s not the reality,” he said. Octavio Arguelloone of the three members of CGT’s new triumvirate, fonte vecchia modeon Net TV and Radio Perfil (AM 1190). Convinced that “no labor reform has improved the situation of workers,” he predicted “tough discussions” with the government, warning that “the government will fight on every front, as democracy and the constitution allow, including in the legislative chamber, in the judiciary, and in the streets.”

Octavio Argüello is a trade unionist representing the Truck Drivers Union and is the general secretary of the February 3rd and San Martín branches. He is one of the three joint general secretaries who will make up the new organization. triumvirate He was accepted as a trident member of the new Segetista leadership, along with Jorge Sola, General Secretary of the General Confederation of Labor, and Cristian Geronimo, President of the Glass Employees Union.

In a conversation with Luis Secco, he mentioned some ideas the president might have about balancing the dollar if labor reforms could lower so-called labor costs. I don’t know if at any point in the analysis you do you factor in the possibility that the president is considering labor reform and exchange rate reform together. In any case, I am very interested in hearing your thoughts on labor reform.

Authoritarians don’t like this

The practice of professional and critical journalism is a fundamental pillar of democracy. That is why it bothers those who believe that they are the owners of the truth.

No, first Labor costs are unlikely to cause dollar imbalancesthat doesn’t happen there. And second, of all the labor reforms implemented to date, none have created more jobs or improved conditions for workers as much as the 1991, 1995, and Banelko Acts. On the contrary, there was an increasing number of unemployed people and workers outside the formal sector.

How do you think the projects sent by the government will ultimately play out in Congress?

No, it’s going to be a difficult debate, but two years into this government, we’ve been putting the brakes on the right to strike, as in section 70 of Act 23. We have stopped all of this in the Legislature, by talking to members of Congress, through the judiciary, and by demonstrating in the streets.

And this, yeah, I can see it’s going to be a tougher debate. Because the political reality we face today is different from what was happening until recently. His victory in October gave him more MPs to enact reforms. I have no choice, We will have discussions in all areas: in the Legislature, in the judiciary, and in the streets. Democracy and the Constitution should be the tools that give us to protect our rights.

CGT co-chair Cristian Geronimo rejected the 12-hour workday and said: “We will not accept regressive proposals that involve the deprivation of rights.”

Yesterday, we met with Deputy Prime Minister Miguel Ángel Pichet, who believed that an unusual reform project involving both labor and taxes could only start in late January or early February. However, given this specificity, he said it is very likely that the labor reform bill will be introduced in the Senate, as the tax bill will inevitably have a starting chamber in the House of Representatives. That is, even if both are treated at the same time. In this sense, what kind of dialogue are you having with members of both houses?

We have already begun discussions with members of Congress through Companion. dalethis is in the Home Office and we are starting a dialogue with them to see what their position is on this kind of reform. And we asked what would happen if this work flexibility that the government wanted to implement was realized, and the harm it would cause to all workers.

Are there any parts of the current law that you think need to be amended?

Yes, we We understand that changes are occurring in the world of work. Call it technology, call it robotics, just like the evolution that every society brings. but This doesn’t mean they take away our rights because of what that entails. Today, we can and will sit down at the dialogue table to discuss how we create legislation that truly includes all workers outside the system and adds more formal workers. Repeat again: I am convinced that with this reform of this government, jobs will disappear. Because the discussion doesn’t end there.

What is the situation within the CGT today? They have a triumvirate and Mr Dale, one of the key figures in the previous leadership, remains the most politically connected with MPs. In this current situation, in this new CGT formula, how do you think power is distributed within the CGT?

I don’t think the triumvirate is the first time CGT has been normalized under this system. We are already in the triumvirate until 2029 and are in talks with all trade union organizations. We have meetings and what comes out always comes out through consensus. And it will continue to be the same. All decisions taken will be based on the consensus of the entire labor movement.

But is there also a generational shift in this university debate?

yes. You are well aware that Comrade Dahl covered the Secretariat, Comrade Acuña, and in this case Comrade Sola and Comrade. Christian Geronimoyoung fellow. And yes, there are alternatives. I always say that the generation gap is not a matter of age, but a situation where we see reality from a different perspective.

And what does the change in leadership mean for truck drivers, one of the strongest and most important unions?

Obviously, it’s a trade union that has always fought and we’re still part of the CGT today. It is clear that we are one of the most important trade unions. And this gives CGT a different context in any discussion. And I have a responsibility not only to represent all workers, but also to represent trade union organizations within CGT.

“We have a phenomenal influx of dollars coming in,” Luis Caputo told businessmen.

I ask you because a few days ago you saw a direct battle between two opposing sectors within Kamioneros. That’s why I asked him if his role is also to create a generational change in his concept of perspective, regardless of age.

No, I repeat again. We have consciousness, so I say, this also involves a partner. When someone says there is something we need to discuss, we need to discuss it. It cannot be maintained because the only truth is reality. If you don’t understand reality, you can’t create any change. And the truth is, the labor market has changed and the way we work has changed. Not too long ago, before the pandemic, home offices didn’t exist. That still exists today, but I think this pandemic has accelerated it. Now, we have to deal with this situation. But we’re always looking for better policies, policies that actually create more jobs, not that workers’ rights are taken away in order to create jobs.

What does it mean that no one with the surname Moyano is leading the Kamioneros in this generational change?

I have someone to accompany me. Hugo Antonio Moyano.

But you represent CGT truck drivers. That’s what I was referring to.

That’s the case with CGT. It’s not something I have to think about, it’s a decision made by my organization.

Can you imagine that what we are seeing is a process of replacement within the truck drivers themselves?

No, I am a colleague who has been with the organization for a long time. I am not one of those who just started CGT. I have served on both union and federation boards for a long time. Well, today it’s my turn to represent our organization and all the workers within the CGT triumvirate. And I take that commitment as the mission they gave me.
