A fiery explosion and fire broke out in an industrial park south of Argentina’s capital Ezeiza city on Friday, injuring at least 22 people, authorities and local media said.
– Explosions and fires occurring in various industries are serious – Gastón Granados, the mayor of Ezeiza, declared this to local channel C5N. Local television showed footage of smoke rising from the flames and an explosion in this municipality in Buenos Aires province.
— Windows in the house and in the neighborhood exploded — Granados, who lives about 500 meters from the industrial area known as Spegazzini Industrial Park, told C5N.
-The situation is so bad that families living nearby have been evacuated, the mayor reiterated.
Meanwhile, Carlos Santoro, director of the hospital where the injured arrive, told local channel La Nacion+, “We have accepted 22 patients so far.”
Santoro told local media outlet Infobae that the hospital had taken in a man who had suffered a heart attack and a pregnant woman with symptoms of intoxication, both residents of the area close to the explosion site and who were in intensive care.
Mayor Granados said the cause of the explosion that caused the disaster is currently unknown. “We’re trying to control it and eliminate it, but we can’t do it yet,” he said.
According to local media, at least five factories were damaged. This industrial park is located near Ezeiza International Airport, Argentina’s capital and largest airport, and is home to a variety of industries.
— They are different companies offering different products. It has a large inventory of tires, a chemical company, and an Iron Mountain warehouse (document storage). This is a very complex fire and will be a long-term fire, Buenos Aires provincial civil defense chief Fabián García told La Nación + newspaper early Saturday morning.

Videos and images flooded social media showing the fire and long plumes of smoke from various angles.
Local newspaper La Nación confirmed that one road leading to the scene was closed as a precautionary measure and about 20 firefighters were at the scene.
