Carlos Alcaraz: “My motivation is to continue winning Grand Slams”

Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz confessed that repeating the feeling of winning a “Grand Slam” is the biggest motivation for his career, and that in addition to winning the ATP Finals and Davis Cup and becoming number one in the world, he “hopes for it to continue for many seasons,” aiming to finish on a high note in 2025.

In an interview with El Larguerro de la Cadena Ser compiled by the European Press Agency, Alcaraz expressed his satisfaction at achieving number one at the end of the season and winning the trophy this Friday, just as he did in 2022. “To finish the season as number one at 22 years old, for many years and many seasons to come, I hope I don’t stagnate here,” he said of his goals.

“The truth is, what we’ve done all year has meant a lot. We’ve had ups and downs, ups and downs, good times and bad, but being able to learn from all those moments and being able to keep working and keep moving forward and being able to see ourselves playing good tennis and most of all consistently, I think finishing the year in first place speaks to that,” he added.

The Murcian claimed to be the best player of 2025 after his performance in the group stage at the ATP Finals home base in Turin and will face Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime this Saturday. “It’s very special to finish a year in first place, because it’s a reward for all the hard work you’ve put in all year and what you’ve been looking for all year long. It feels like it’s paid off. It’s a beautiful and wonderful thing, and I value it very highly,” he said, adding that he is currently aiming to become a “master.”

Alcaraz emphasized the level of his next rival, the American, in Turin on the indoor track, but was asked about the consecutive victories of Italy’s Jannik Sinner, who, along with the Spaniard, dominates indoors and on the circuit. “This is one of the biggest challenges. Sinner hasn’t lost an indoor match in the last two years,” he reflected.

Alcaraz, who won eight titles in 2025, including two Grand Slams, is looking for more from the year, adding: “We are ready, we are playing well and we are energetic.” “It would be incredible if we could finish the year with 10 ATP Finals and Davis Cup titles combined. Let’s give it a shot. It’s the last two weeks of a long, tough year, but obviously everything we’ve done has been great,” he said.

Meanwhile, the former El Palmar player confessed that winning “big” is his biggest motivation. “To keep winning Grand Slams. That feeling when you lift a Grand Slam trophy, that keeps you giving everything, keep training, keep improving and keep feeling again. That’s my real motivation,” confessed the Spaniard, who along with Sinner has been champion of these tournaments for the past two years.

“Tennis is for a lot of players. Obviously because of the results, people may be putting the two of us at the top of the tour, so to speak. But the reality is there are a lot of players who are going to give us a hard time and have a chance to win the tournament,” he concluded.
