Journalists voted the GAC GS4 the Best Hybrid (HEV) and the Haval H9 the Best 7-seater SUV.
Voting in the Hybrid (HEV) and 7-seat SUV (ICE) categories of the Trend Car 2025 Terra Guia do Carro Award has determined the winners of two models from Chinese automakers. In the hybrid segment, the GAC GS4 outperformed its direct rivals from Honda, Hyundai, and Omoda. Among seven-seater SUVs, GWM’s Haval H9 outperformed competitors from Audi, Jeep, and Mercedes.
GAC GS4 faced very good rivals but managed to win
In the hybrid category (vehicles with HEV technology only), the GAC GS4 received 37.5% of the votes, with a total of nine nominations. It was followed by Omoda 5 with 25% (6 votes), Hyundai Kona with 20.8% (5 votes) and Honda Civic with 16.7% (4 votes). In this category, there were two abstentions and a total of 24 valid votes.
- GAC GS4 – 37.5%
- Omoda 5 – 25.0%
- Hyundai Kona – 20.8%
- Honda Civic – 16.7%
Seven-seater Haval H9 beats sleeker, more expensive models
Only models equipped with an internal combustion engine (ICE) competed for the title of Best 7-seat SUV or Best Premium SUV. The Trend Car organization has decided to merge the two categories into one and assign the appropriate title depending on the winning model.
The victory went to GWM’s diesel model, the Haval H9, which received 29.2% of the votes and received a total of seven nominations. They were quickly followed by the Audi Q5/Q5 Sportback and Jeep Commander, both of which received 20.8% (5 votes each). Audi RS Q8 and Mercedes-AMG G 63 received 12.5% (3 votes), while Audi SQ5/SQ5 Sportback received 4.2% (1 vote). There were also two abstentions in this category, resulting in a total of 24 valid votes.
Female jurors accounted for 71.4% of Haval H9 votes. The male jury favored Jeep Commander, receiving 80% of the votes in this section. However, in the overall tally, the Commander’s advantage over H9 in the male vote was very small: 16.7% to 12.5%. Therefore, the title was given to the Chinese SUV. The Audi Q5 was left with the consolation of the title of “moral champion” of premium SUVs.
- Haval H9 – 29.2%
- Audi Q5/Q5 Sportback – 20.8%
- Jeep Commander – 20.8%
- Audi RS Q8 – 12.5%
- Mercedes AMG G 63 – 12.5%
- Audi SQ5/SQ5 Sportback – 4.2%
The winner will receive a “Trend Car 2025 Terra Ghia do Caro” sticker.
For this achievement, GAC and GWM will receive the “Trend Car 2025 Terra Guia do Carro” seal, which can be used in all advertising and promotional materials for one year.
