The other day they told me a story about a very young doctor from Valladolid. The doctor is one of those doctors who is so good, so good, that he writes for the New England Medical Journal and the Lancet without breaking a sweat. People here like the ones you meet at the supermarket … But you don’t notice them because their pants, jackets, coats are normal and even their calm in the checkout line is normal… In some cases, a certain air of ignorance may be the only clue that distinguishes them.

This young doctor’s accomplishments were related to nephrology or a similar field. Talking about him was another doctor who was excited about his “own” accomplishments. When we finished our conversation, I wanted to meet the eminent doctor, but I don’t think I’ll ever get that chance unless, God forbid, he accepts me as a patient. Instead, I would like to hope that my praise remains at the point of recognizing how much good we have next door.

At the end of the day, I read the newspaper and watched TV. At that time of the night, all the news is already old, and all that remains is entertainment, analysis, and the occasional secular sermon by the employees. They claim they don’t understand why people vote for whom. After paying attention for a few minutes, they pretty much convinced me that the thing to do was to communicate things in a way that people could understand. To be good literature, literature has to be accessible, and if you’re targeting young people, communication has to be through TikTok.

At the time, no one seemed to remember that what young medical gurus were doing was not as explainable as putting together a table. The same goes for macroeconomics and nuclear energy. It’s one thing to convince yourself that pedagogy and the kind of blood-dizzying letter a young scientist can operate on a kidney he’s repaired in a lab is quite another. Look at how difficult it was for St. Thomas to write the “Five Ways” before Rosalia arrived and made the world understand the existence of God. When the next album is released, we’ll see how much of it is a revelation and how much is an advertisement. Because having faith and having fashion are two different things. Because not eating saturated fat and becoming a doctor are two different things. If it’s about democracy or governance, there’s no need to go back to Pericles or Churchill. Because a guy comes along and explains in a one-minute video how to save the world.
