Madrid November 15 (Europe Press) –
An explosion at a police station in the Indian city of Srinagar on Friday night killed at least seven people, including police officers and civil servants, and injured 27 others, the Times of India reported, citing sources close to the investigation.
The explosion happened by chance when a group of forensic experts were inspecting and extracting samples from a cache of recently seized and kept explosives at Nowgam police station, the office in question.
Local authorities said most of the victims were police officers and members of forensic science teams. So far, six bodies have been recovered and shifted to the police control center in Srinagar, where identification work has already begun.
At least 24 police officers and three civilians have been identified as injured, with varying degrees of injury, and have been transferred to other hospitals in the city for treatment.
However, authorities have warned that the death toll could rise further as five of the victims are in critical condition, and the media said authorities revealed that the seized items were part of 360 kilograms of explosive chemicals recovered from the residence of previously arrested doctor Muzammil Ganaie.
