November is the month when the inter-university dispute enters its final stage, and it is also a decisive period for inter-university solidarity. This activity is one of the most traditional competitions organized by O GLOBO newspaper, organized by Sesc-RJ and sponsored by Caixa, aiming to strengthen the social nature of the tournament and involve students, teachers and families in the food collection chain throughout the state of Rio. The project is a partnership with Mesa Brasil Sesc, a national program to fight hunger and food waste.

Donations will be accepted until the 21st, and will be collected at participating schools from the 24th to the 27th of this month. After collection, all items are transported to the Mesa Brazil headquarters where they are sorted and weighed. The final results will be announced on the O GLOBO newspaper’s social networks on November 28th at 6pm.
The three schools that collect the most food will receive trophies and also earn points in the overall intercollegiate count. In addition, each person will receive a prize for improvements aimed at improving sports facilities and purchasing materials. First place will receive an improvement worth R$5,000. In the second case, you can expect an improvement of 3,000 reais. For the third, it is 2,000 reais. Improvements are determined jointly with the school and event organizer and cannot be exchanged for cash. In other words, you must invest the entire amount of your prize.
According to the regulations, only schools registered with Intercollege can participate in the initiative by filling out a specific form on the competition’s official website.

The campaign structure is free. Each school can develop its own strategy for collecting food. The calculation takes into account not only the amount collected, but also the balance of donated items. This is the standard outlined at the Interuniversity Opening Conference held in May.
Intercollegiate coordinator Diego Souza said last year’s campaign collected more than nine tons of food, which was donated to the Mesa Brasil Sesqui program and “helped thousands of people receive this assistance with love and dignity.” To him, this is proof that Intercollegiate is more than just a sports debate, it’s a civil rights movement that can inspire change-making attitudes on and off the court.
— Interdisciplinary solidarity goes far beyond the courtroom and is one of the most specific modes of interuniversity solidarity. This action unites students, teachers, and the entire school community to facilitate the collection of food for vulnerable families. I would like to proudly highlight the participation of our students in this endeavor with enthusiasm and empathy. They understand that sport is not just about competition, but also a way to change lives through a commitment to working together for the common good, he says.
The collection of donations will take place from 10am to 4pm on the 28th at the company’s Mesa Brazil headquarters in the presence of representatives from Sesc, GLOBO, and production company Abadai. An event to mark the formal awarding of the winners will be held on December 5th, concluding the 2025 calendar of activities between the universities with a symbolic gesture of cooperation and solidarity.
While the school strengthens its mutual solidarity movement, the court battle reaches a decisive stage. Today, Apollo 12 Gymnasium in Santa Cruz will once again host the volleyball semifinals, bringing together schools from different regions of the state and promising a balanced and exciting match.
The program will begin at 9am with a girls under-18 showdown between Colegio Pedro II and Santa Teresinha. Next up will be a duel between Notre Dame and Luz de Sabres in the men’s 18-and-under division at 10 a.m. At 11 a.m., Apollo 12 and Suzano Costa, also from the under-18 boys team, will take to the court. And at noon, the Royde Maasa women’s team will take on Lus de Sabre.
Competition continues in the afternoon in the 15 and under category. At 1 p.m., GEO Dotor Socrates will take on Selc, followed immediately after by Apollo 12 against Garriga de Menezes at 2 p.m. Both are in the women’s category. In the men’s division, GEO Doutor Socrates will face Garriga de Menezes again at 3pm, and the day will end with a duel between GEO Felix Mier Venerand and GEO Juan Antonio Samaranch at 4pm.
The Apollo 12 gym is located at Rua Fernanda 560. The semifinal winners will guarantee a spot in the volleyball finals scheduled for later this month, capping a season of great competition and talent on display at the Intercollegiate, one of the state’s premier student sporting events.
