actor james pickens jr. (Featured photo)the star of the series “Grey’s Anatomy” has revealed that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The 73-year-old artist said he was not surprised by the diagnosis because the disease runs in his family.
“It’s not the kind of news that anyone wants to hear, but to be honest, prostate cancer runs in my family. My father had prostate cancer. He had a lot of brothers, some of whom also had prostate cancer. I would be surprised if I didn’t have prostate cancer,” he told the Black Health Matter Portal.

The actor, who plays Richard Weber on 22 seasons of the medical series, said he was diagnosed earlier this year. Since the cancer had not spread yet, he underwent surgery to remove his prostate. “We were able to detect the problem this early because you were testing,” he warned.
James also said that although his family had the disease, “no one died from it.”
“By the way, I have a cousin who is 90 years old and is still alive. He had this disease. His son had it too. Some of his brothers had it too. As far as I know, no one has died from it,” he added.
