Ivan’s presence among Inter’s stars represents a new chapter in his recent trajectory. The goalkeeper, who has been in charge of the last six games, is experiencing his longest spell on the field since 2021, when he last accumulated a consistent record on the field in the Ponte Preta shirt in Serie B.
That season, the goalkeeper played in the Campinas team for 26 consecutive games. His regular appearances saw him emerge on the international scene and earned him a move to Corinthians in 2022. But since then, his path has been bumpy with few opportunities.
For the São Paulo club, Ivan only appeared in three matches: twice in the Copa do Brasil and once in the Libertadores, starting twice and replacing Cassio in the other. In the same year, he was loaned to Russian side Zenit, where he appeared in four games.
Return to Brazilian soccer
His return to Brazil took place at the beginning of 2023, again under a contract with Corinthians, but he moved to Vasco. He played three games in a row at Campeonato Carioca, but was quickly given space by Leo Jardim and did not play for the rest of the season.
Now at Inter, Ivan has once again found the support of Ramon Díaz. He’s a coach I worked with at Vasco, but he wasn’t on the field at the time. After conceding five goals in six games in a row, the goalkeeper moved from being the third option to becoming a starter, playing a decisive role with important interventions.
From the third option to the undisputed holder
Hired in early 2024 to replace Roche, Ivan injured his right knee in his Gaussian debut against Avenida. His recovery continued until the end of the season, and it wasn’t until near the end of the season that he felt fit again.
Still, no chance was given as Rocher held his position and Antoni, trained at the base, was the second substitute. However, a series of mistakes led to Antoni being removed from the team, and after the defeat against Mirasol on matchday 28, there was room for a replacement and Ivan was given a new chance.
Since then, Ivan has become one of the main players in the club. Despite Inter facing a crisis in the relegation battle, the goalkeeper stood out with important saves and even managed to avoid defeat with more resilient scoring.
