After Nana Silva’s stunning 7/5 6/4 victory over Matilde Jorge, Brazil closed the coffin on Portugal 3-0 in the first playoff match of the Billie Jean King Cup, the biggest women’s tennis competition in the countries.
Laura Pigossi secured victory in the showdown with a 6/4 double win over 202nd place Francisca Jorge, while Luisa Stefani and Ingrid Martins defeated Ines Murta and Angelina Voloshuk 6/1 4/6 6/3.
The score will give the team a place in the Group E play-offs against home team Australia this Saturday night in Hobart, Australia, qualifying them for the 2026 qualifiers. If they lose, the team returns to the America Zone.
Barring any surprises, Nana will begin a showdown with Kimberly Birrell, Pigossi will face Maya Joint with Luisa and Ingrid, and conclude the duel with Ellen Perez and Storm Hunter.
