Last Friday (11/14), a man was arrested in Sorocaba, in the interior of São Paulo, on suspicion of raping his own granddaughter. He had been on the run for about six years, but was found by civilian police after receiving information that he had been at a bus terminal in the city.
The 61-year-old man was the subject of a preventive arrest warrant for a crime that occurred in 2007, according to the incident report. At the time, rape cases were classified as “violent and forcible indecency.” The victim was 9 years old.

After being sentenced in Osasco, in the São Paulo metropolitan area, the man fled and began living in hiding in Sorocaba. After his arrest, he was taken to the Women’s Defense Police Department (DDM) headquarters to be sanctioned by the Ministry of Justice.
Authorities later reported that he was also being investigated for another recent rape crime. Details are not being disclosed so as not to jeopardize the ongoing investigation.
