Police dogs, a special resource of the Special Operations Division (DOE) of the Federal District Civil Police (PCDF), have become an integral part of police operations in the capital, especially when it comes to executing search and seizure warrants involving firearms, ammunition and narcotics.
In this column, we obtained access to a video demonstrating the acute sense of smell of these animals. In an amazing move, they were able to discover an unlikely cache of illegal drugs.
medicine to order
In one case, one of the K9 unit’s dogs was able to point out a box of illegal drugs being mailed to another state among 3,000 other boxes.
The discovery occurred during a routine visit. Police officer Ricardo Textor explained in his column that it is common for post offices to schedule dog visits to agencies to help them spot illegal packages.
Cocaine in the chicken coop
On another occasion, one of them discovered a large quantity of drugs buried in a chicken coop in the back garden of a large farm.
Operators said the operation started early and investigators had already been searching a wide area for hours before deciding to look for special resources. The dog was given the task and immediately headed to the place where the chickens were hatching. In disbelief, the police tracked him down and found drugs.
Synthetic drugs in the walls
On another occasion, a dog smelled a synthetic illegal substance disguised with an outlet cover and hidden inside a steel safe attached to a concrete wall.
In another operation, criminals hid drug bars inside the lid of a freezer. Upon opening the device, the investigator found what he was looking for, and the dog finally received the much-awaited ball.
In another video, police recorded when one of the dogs discovered drugs hidden under rubble in dense forest.
