Valladolid have a ‘fulfilling’ weekend in Men’s Super Cup with Spain vs England

Valladolid will experience a “rugby weekend” this week with the Spanish Super Cup, which will be played in a friendly between Spain and England at the José Zorilla Stadium on Saturday, and on Sunday between Valladolid’s Inexo El Salvador and VRAC Quesos Entrepinares teams at the Pepe Rojo Field.

This was predicted by the Mayor of Valladolid, Jesús Julio Carnero, during the presentation of these meetings with the President of the Royal Spanish Rugby Federation (RFER) Juan Carlos Martín “Hansen” two weeks ago. Maite Martinez, Councilor for Citizen Participation and Sports, and representatives from VRAC and El Salvador.

Carnero stressed that there will be two “great matches” between Spain and England, as well as the “first great final or first great duel” of the season, including the Men’s Super Cup celebrations.

“Rugby in Valladolid, as we all feel, is a great sport that identifies us, and not only identifies us with our quarry, but also with facts and titles,” commented the first mayor.

Juan Carlos Martín ‘Hansen’ praised the Pucerano City Council’s efforts, coordination and commitment “above all” to bring this category of event to the city. The federation president said “what we need now” is for “everyone to start talking about rugby” and “prioritizing rugby where it belongs”.

‘Hansen’ recalled that it was the first time Spain were playing against England A, which included some well-established players from the Six Nations tournament. “We are playing against a top-level team and the next day we have the Super Cup,” he emphasized on this point.

“We have reached our highest ever ranking, so we can play against England and show that we are growing,” the federation president said, adding that Spain had “made a fresh start” on the international stage after finishing runners-up in the sevens, qualifying for the last Women’s World Cup and qualifying for the next Men’s World Cup.

Hansen then pointed out that Spain has a “high performance” plan and continues to make progress because the federation is “strategically” based around six or seven centers and has a “perfect storm” thanks to institutional “coordination” with stadiums, clubs and more.

“From there, we can say there is a possibility of a spontaneous spread,” said Hansen, who cited Valladolid as one of the “centers” where the federation is clearly “focused on growth”, which is why he thinks the match “has to be a party”.

In addition, to encourage spectators, although games start at 5 p.m., a “fan zone” will be set up in the morning. At Jose Zorrilla Stadium. Details of the area were finalized the day before and will be surrounded by restaurants, music venues, retail stores and activities for boys and girls.

The organization expects half of the people watching the match to come from outside Valladolid. However, on the day of the presentation, it was emphasized that there is a “need” for the city to participate in the “Star” match, which conveys its “importance” from Spain to the world.

Meanwhile, the Super Cup will be held on Sunday at the Pepe Rojo Stadium between Valladolid’s Inexo El Salvador and VRAC Quesos Entrepinares, which will also be a new derby and will be a “great match” that will be a match to “support the club”.

The match will be broadcast on pay TV, but Martín encouraged viewers to watch it “on the spot” as there are “many possibilities” as “there are a lot of players from these clubs who have contributed to the Spanish team”. He said the federation is therefore “doing everything and making every effort” to continue “growing” with Pusela.
