Since 2006, in 13 of the 19 Serie A competitions in which 20 clubs have battled for consecutive points, the winner of the first round has taken home the Brazilian Championship Cup. The remaining six featured exceptions to Flamengo and Palmeiras, each of whom won the title twice despite not having led in the first half of the competition.
On this day, celebrating their 130th anniversary, Flamengo gave a gift to their fans with a 5-1 away win against Sport in Recife, taking them to 43 points and clinching the symbolic title of the first round of the Brazilian Championship. The Santos x Palmeiras results put Rubro Negro in first place overall.
Only twice have Flamengo scored more points in this round than Corinthians in 2017 and Botafogo in 2023, both with 47 points. This is the third time that the leaders of the round have ended the first half with 43 points, a record previously held by Atlético MG in 2012 and Cruzeiro in 2014.
Since the 20-club points run began in 2006, the top 13 teams in the round have been crowned Brazilian champions, but six times this has not happened, with Flamengo and Palmeiras serving to break the mystique, guaranteeing the title each on two of those occasions.
