Flamengo defeated Sport 5-1 at the Arena Pernambuco in a delayed match against Brasileiron in a clash that saw two first-half sending-offs. It was still early in the first half and Pablo opened the scoring, but Luis Araujo left everything as it was. Matheus Alexandre and Ramon Menezes received two yellow cards each, making things tough for the Pernambuco side, who are mathematically relegated. Juninho, Bruno Henrique, Ayrton Lucas and Douglas Telles completed the red-black rout in the final stage.
As a result, the Rio team leads the competition with 71 points, but they have one more game remaining than Palmeiras will play against Santos this Saturday (15th). Sport remains at the bottom of the table with 17 points and will play in the second division in 2026.
Leo da Ilha’s next match will be on Tuesday the 18th at 8:30pm (Brasilia time) against Botafogo at the Nilton Santos. The next day (19th), Rubro Negro will face arch-rivals Fluminense at the Maracanã at 9:30pm (Brasilia time).
A lion roars in the arena
In the first minute of the match, Samuel Reno took advantage of a deep play and Wallace Yan scored a free finish, but the player was not satisfied and was sent off. The home team was also in danger, with Leo Pereira going up to the baseline and hitting a cross. Mateusinho’s shot was saved by Ayrton Lucas and the ball went through the entire Flamengo area.
Leo Pereira, now free again, scored under pressure, stealing the ball from João Victor. In this way, Luan Candido assisted Pablo, and although he was initially blocked, he took advantage of the second ball and found the net.
Tie with two sending offs
A cross inside the area found Bruno Henrique heading for goal, but he was stopped by a G. Abriel Vasconcelos and Samuel Lino also tried to go over the top with different moves, but were sent off. It was still early in the first half when Matheus Alexandre fouled Ayrton Lucas and was sent off with a second yellow card, much to the dismay of the fans.
Luis Araujo then brought Rivera on and he took a good shot, leaving nothing on the scoreboard. And so, in the final stages, Ramon Menezes received a second yellow card for a foul on Wallace Yan and left Sport with two fewer cards and returned to the dressing room.
Pressure and defeat are at hand.
After the break, Flamengo looked to counterattack, and it was a battle of attack versus defense. However, after a beautiful finish from Ayrton Lucas, Gabriel Vasconcelos made a great save. The come-from-behind goal came from the feet of two substitute players. In the end, Sebolinha hit the post and Juninho added to the score with the rebound.
After that, Sport’s defense lost concentration and saw their opponents burying the net again. Sebolinha collected the ball and passed it to Luis Araujo, who rolled the ball for Bruno Henrique to cover. A few minutes later, Ayrton Lucas broke free and took a shot with his right foot. The ball was deflected by Aderlin to deceive G. Abriel Vasconcelos. Young Douglas Telles came on in the second half and immediately scored his first goal after receiving a pass from Sebolinha. In the end, Saul took a dangerous free kick and almost scored the sixth goal.
