The movement of the cold front, combined with the action of an unstable region, should concentrate heavy rains this Thursday in parts of Mato Grosso do Sul (including the possibility of hail in the Campo Grande (MS) region), Paraná, western Santa Catarina and Triangulo Mineiro, and the effects of this phenomenon could be felt in the region until the end of Friday.

These locations are expected to experience strong winds of up to 100 km/h, as well as rainfall of up to 100 mm per day. In addition to this warning, the National Meteorological Institute (Inmet) also issued warnings for heavy rains (between the states of Mato Grosso, Rondonia and Amazonas) and “accumulating rain” (from the Salvadoran metropolitan area to the state of Feira de Santana).

However, the chance of rain is not limited to these areas. Another four rain warnings issued by Inmet (less severe) cover an area from western Rio Grande do Sul to southern Amazonas.

In the northeast, rain is limited to this part of Bahia, as Inmet has issued a low humidity warning for all states in the region except the coastal areas. According to the institute, it is expected that the relative humidity of the air could reach 20% in these locations.

In the southeast, temperatures are expected to rise slightly compared to the previous day in Belo Horizonte (maximum temperature 30°C), São Paulo (32°C) and Rio (30°C). After a disappointing Wednesday, there will be little cloud cover in Brasilia this Thursday, with a maximum temperature of 29°C, below the expected 35°C in Goiania and Cuiabá, both of which may experience isolated rain.

Belém, the venue for COP30, is expected to have a maximum temperature of 34 degrees Celsius, with plenty of clouds and the possibility of localized rain. Palmas, located in the northern region, is also noteworthy. Temperatures can reach 35°C, but no rain is forecast.

The recommendations of the National Meteorological Institute (Inmet) are to avoid facing severe weather, monitor changes in slopes and, if possible, turn off electrical appliances and general energy supplies. The institute has also left a series of instructions for residents in areas most likely to be affected by the rains. Look:

  1. Turn off electrical appliances and general power.
  2. Observe the change in slope.
  3. If there is a gust of wind, please do not seek shelter under a tree as there is a slight risk of falling or electrical discharge. Also, do not park your vehicle near power towers or advertising signs.
  4. In case of flooding, protect your belongings from water by wrapping them in plastic bags.
  5. For more information, contact the Civil Defense Department (phone 199) and the Fire Department (phone 193).
